Presidential Address
As the president of Kolhapur Obstetric Gynaecologist’s Society I welcome you all to this new platform of communication. At the out set let me thank you for giving me the opportunity to take this position of the honour and responsibility. Kolhapur has the legacy of advanced medical facilities and many selfless, dedicated Doctors in various specialities.
As we survived through this pandemic, we came out as different people, adapting to the changes imposed on us. All the restrictions and limitations ‘COVID’ imposed on us, we humans found the way through. With the help of technology, the virtual reality provided by on-line platform gave us an opportunity to continue our exchange of knowledge through meetings and conferences. It gave us a new platform for education not only in school and colleges but also for continued medical education (CME). We learnt ‘Zooming’, talked through ‘Duo’, learnt mute-unmute, video on-off and slide share. We had to learn new sets of etiquets. We were able to hold discussion, get opinions, and have informative chats online. Suddenly people not only from all over Maharashtra, but from all over India were available at the click of the finger. We could enjoy academic feast from Kerala to Chandigadh, regarding Obstetric practices in Covid.
Looking ahead as the health care improves we start concentrating on the preventive aspects. It looks like we are concentrating our thoughts through treatment of the disease to prevention of the disease. We are doing cancer surgeries but focussing on the cancer prevention and early detection of the cancer. Our complete antenatal care is designed to prevent any possible complications in pregnancy outcome. We learnt MTPs, but we are trying to prevent unwanted pregnancies. We are discussing family planning and contraception. We are concentrating on near-miss cases, rather than mortalities with a sigh of relief and sense of achievement.
We are thinking of reducing maternal mortality, better perinatal outcome and so on and so forth.
We can do it together, we can LEARN, GROW AND SUPPORT Learn through various activities, grow and achieve excellence in academics and be a supportive pillar for our society.
I have very active and vibrant team with me and support from all of you.
